Det har ryktats i evigheter men nu är det bekräftat, via en läcka på EA:s onlineaffär. Syndicate är tillbaka, utvecklat av Starbreeze. Och istället för ett isometriskt strategispel är det… en förstapersonsskjutare.
Suck. Nu säger jag ingenting om Starbreeze kompetens. Även om de inte faller mig i smaken är både Chronicles of Riddick och The Darkness riktigt kompetenta titlar och man kan tycka att steget till Syndicate är kort. Mer cyberpunk behövs också i största allmänhet.
Det som irriterar mig är det faktum att alla spel idag måste vara skjutare, gärna med handling skriven av någon relativt framgångsrik Sciencefictionbokhandels-hyllfyllare. Shadowrun, ursprungligen ett detaljerat och fritt rollspel med massvis av dialog, cyberspace och coola prylar? Förstapersonsskjutare med lite specialförmågor. X-Com, ursprungligen ett stenhårt och intensivt taktiskt strategispel med basbyggande? Förstapersonsskjutare med ”element från de ursprungliga spelen”. (Där gick till och med 2K Games ut och sa att ”strategispel ligger inte i tiden” vilket är kvalificerat skitsnack.) Front Mission, ursprungligen ett tungt strategispel med jätterobotar? Tredjepersonsskjutare med jobbig dialog, jätterobotar och uppdrag till fots.
Vad kommer härnäst? Vilka fler gamla serier kan vi återuppliva och göra om helt och hållet till fansens frustration? Låt oss se.
